As I was walking through my small town, I noticed lots of kids riding bikes and scooters, playing basketball and swinging on swings; but I didn't see one, not one, kid climbing a tree.
I did see several good climbing trees; the kind with a low branch to hoist yourself up on and good crackly bark to dig your toes into.
So, why weren't they climbing?
I asked one little girl, and she told me she didn't want to get dirty. Her friend said her mom wouldn't let her.
The next time I head out for a stroll in my little town, I am going to bring some kids with me who want to climb trees (and whose moms say it's okay).
