the importance of reading
I'd say I spend 90 percent of my day looking. Seeing. Taking in visuals. Less of my time is spent decoding my world. I wonder what this passive way of being is doing to my brain.
I think just watching and not thinking, reading, writing, makes my brain lazy.
My brain is like a leg muscle. It needs to be exercised. It needs to be active. To move. To take on pressure. To be challenged. If I sit around all day, I feel lazy. My legs resist working the longer they do nothing. They don't want to take a walk. Even if the weather is beautiful. They just want to sit, the more I sit.
My legs are lazy when I let them be so.
Just like I need to make a habit of walking to keep my leg muscles strong, I need to make a habit of reading to keep my writing muscles strong.
As I read, my mind takes in ideas and analyzes them. They marinate. Those thoughts soon change. They become mine. I add a little this, remove a little that, and soon I've created my own unique ideas.
There is an importance to reading. It's the writing mind's exercise.
